ILP 2

This is a Time Lapse video of people working out at an FSU gym class. Working out and fitness can be related to a middle and high school P.E. class. In P.E. you are exercising and using your muscles to do a desired task. By moving around, you are working your muscles and building strength in the particular area you are working.

Time Lapse videos are beneficial to education because it shows a general action speeded up to quickly get a point or message across. They are fun and easy to create and they can capture almost anything. Technology is improving and I feel like Time Lapse videos are something that a lot of people don't know about or don't use. I believe Time Lapse videos are great ways to capture something and to quickly show someone the "summed up" version of what you were able to experience.

Excel is a very useful tool for teachers of all ages to use. It allows for teachers to keep organized documents of specific information. Excel is very useful for teachers when they're keeping track of attendance, grades, and even lesson plans. Excel makes it easy for teachers to make charts or graphs of the information they enter and to clearly see where their students are academically. Personally, I believe Excel will be most beneficial for middle and high school teachers because regarding attendance, they have to keep track of multiple classes and hundreds of students. Discussing subject matter, teachers in math or science will most likely use the information to make charts and graphs.

Throughout the semester, I was required to comment on a few other students blogs. I really liked reading my peer's blogs and seeing how they interpreted the same questions I was required to answer and compare our similarities and differences. My favorite thing to look at was when we were required to post a picture or screenshot of an assignment we turned in for class. Examples of this are the newsletter and our website. I really liked seeing how every interpreted the assignment and how everyone used different pictures and formats different from what I used for these assignments. I like being able to see the creativity of others in my class.

Hopefully in the future I will learn videoconferencing skills. I feel like it is important for people to learn and understand this skill because it has become very common for people to communicate through videoconferencing. Videoconferencing can be used to communicate with friends as well as for business or even interviews. As technology improves, people like to use it more often and I would really like to learn more about it and how it can further benefit our community.

A flipped classroom is when students teach themselves lessons at home by themselves and in the classroom they do activities. This is the reverse of a normal classroom where in the classroom the students learn the lecture with each other and at home by themselves they do their homework activities. Many students have differing opinions about having a flipped classroom. Some students argue that flipped classrooms are helpful and others argue that they hate these types of classes. This link is a Youtube video that explains what a flipped classroom is in depth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCIxikOq73Q

The podcast talks about three main "open" terms. These terms are: open education, open content, and open source. Open education can be defined as the way all people can view or share experiences and knowledge. Open content can be defined as software that people can use freely. Open source can be defined as software that can be modified and then redistributed. Open learning experiences allow for students to learn specific content without physically being enrolled in that school and interacting with the staff. The website provided below gives more information about open source. https://opensource.com/resources/what-open-source

PowerPoint is a very useful tool that has many functions to it. Many people are unaware of the abilities PowerPoint is capable of doing. By working on these assignments in PowerPoint, I have gained a lot of new and useful knowledge. I really like using Powerpoint and learning about the different things located inside PowerPoint. My new favorite action is a non-linear PowerPoint. I think it's really cool that PowerPoints are capable of jumping around from slide to slide by clicking on certain things. I made a Jeopardy game for one of my assignments and I'm really excited to show it to people!

PLN

The first PLN Tool I found is called Powerful Learning Practice. This is a tool that teachers can use to better educate themselves in certain subjects, or subjects they're interested in learning. There are classes that are took to learn this material and it is all self-paced. This can be a valuable tool for teachers to brush up on a topic they haven't taught or even thought about in a while.

This second PLN Tool I found is called Classroom 2.0. This is a tool that is similar to Diigo. This tool allows for teachers to communicate with each other to find out about events coming up, webinars to attend, and discussing projects or how an activity worked/didn't work in their classroom. It is a great tool for teachers to stay connected with each other within the community!

Adaptive technologies are technologies that have changed or evolved so that it is beneficial to students with disabilities. These technologies are put in place so that all students, no matter the disability can have a fair chance of learning the same material as students who don't have disabilities. Personally, I do not know anyone who has used these technologies, but I know that there are many adaptive technologies out there that truly benefit others.

Some teachers or even students may face challenges within the classroom with adaptive technologies. To other students, these devices or technologies may be distracting within the classroom. Unrelated to adaptive technologies in the classroom, but an example is closed captions on TV shows or movies. I don't like watching movies with closed captions because I read the captions and don't pay attention to the actual movie, even though I can hear perfectly. Also, technology isn't perfect. Things break and the student nor the teacher might know how to fix it. If students rely on these devices too much, they might not remember how to function without them.

This article discusses about a few ways to stay on top of technology trends. It is important for teachers to know technology trends that their students are using so they can easily incorporate what the students use into lesson plans and so that they can make sure their students are being safe online. This article talks about eight ways for teachers to keep track of trends. These ways are:
1. Clipboard and Industry Events
2. Curated Information from Social Media
3. News Aggregation Sites
4. Smart Personalization Algorithms
5. Social Networks and News Feeds
6. Constantly Read Tech News and Embrace New Projects
7. Keeping Eyes and Ears Open
8. Watch the People Attempting to Set the Trends

In my opinion, I believe Twitter is one of the easier social medias to use. It allows for people to discuss emotions or thoughts without posting paragraphs of information at once. It is an easy way for people to stay connected with each other. Twitter has always been a personal favorite. Apart from educational purposes, Twitter also provides an abundance of accounts for comedy or poetry or almost anything you are looking for. It is also a social media that people use often on during their day. Compared to Instagram where pictures are not normally posted more than once or twice in a day, it is very common to see people on Twitter tweeting multiple times a day. It is a simple way to know what's going on in someones life when they choose to post. I would recommend Twitter to anyone of all ages to use!

For the assignment 4 Web Design, I created a Weebly account. Weebly is a website tool I have used in the past. In my opinion, websites are sometimes very hard to make and format. While creating this web design, I found a lot of difficulties when trying to format text boxes and pictures. Another issue I experienced was not seeing the same thing on weebly compared to another person looking on my website. I had to reformat some of my information, but once I was finished I was very impressed with what I had created! Next time, I know I will still have some formatting issues but hopefully everything will go a lot smoother. Weebly is a great tool to use and will be very helpful as a teacher.

I am someone who avidly uses social media but when it comes to certain things within computers like bookmarking and easily using shortcuts to navigate, I get lost. When introduced to Diigo, I was a little nervous at first. Once we did assignments with it, I began to realize how much I liked it. Diigo makes things easy when it comes to bookmarking and tagging certain websites. I really like that it can be public to a group of people so people can use the websites I found and I can easily use websites other people found. I was also amazed at how easily it was to annotate an article. Diigo offers very handy tools such as highlighters and sticky notes when annotating which is super helpful. Overall, I have had a positive experience with Diigo and I can definitely see myself using it in the future!

When I was in middle and high school, it was very easy to click on my schools page and find a specific teachers website and see the required homework and assignments without any issues. Even though I graded from high school 2 years ago, the world has changed drastically. My old high school and middle school changed to having their teachers websites on Canvas, similar to what we have here at FSU. Last semester I had the opportunity to observe an eighth grade science class at FSUS. When looking on the FSUS website, I realized that the teacher websites are open to the public. These websites include a brief description of the teacher, including their phone number and email, as well as  assignments for all the classes that teacher might teach.

Teachers in good schools are fortunate enough to use technologies to help them in teaching but also helping them plan lessons, grading, and time management. Most schools today are equipped with either smart boards or promethean boards. Both of these make teaching much easier especially when trying to show 3D models or even videos. These boards allow for more students to be hands on when using the special pen. Technology softwares allow for teachers to also take time to effectively plan out their lessons and make grading much easier. Many teachers come in early and leave late because they have a lot of grading or they didn't have time to plan a lesson. Because of this teachers are using their personal time to focus on their work which could be nearly eliminated depending on the uses of certain technologies.

The FSU Tech Sandbox offers a variety of technologies and softwares that can help make tasks and assignments a lot more easier within the classroom. For example, in the Tech Sandbox there was an Ipad with a software on it that allowed students to have a friendly competition on a certain subject. One of the competitions was who could complete the word faster on the screen. Another task was who could identify countries on a map the fastest. These friendly competitions would be a great way for middle or high schoolers to learn through social interaction and have fun while learning.
