As a student, Microsoft Word was used for almost every assignment I have done or created. From what I have seen, teachers use it less often than students. When a teacher asks for an assignment, most of the time the students use Microsoft Word to type it up, or just to look at the word count. When I use Word now, it's mostly for essays I will be submitting. I have also used Word for discussion boards I am required to post. Even for a discussion post on Canvas, I personally feel more comfortable using Microsoft Word to copy and past the prompt in, as well as type out my discussion so I can use spell check and track my word count. In my opinion, Microsoft Word is the most used out of all the Microsoft software's.

Back in high school, I took a class that helped students with their typing. At the beginning of the class we would use a software that would show a series of words and we would have to type them out and it would measure our speed of typing. This software was copyrighted. Because it was copyrighted, each computer needed the software downloaded so that the students could successfully use it. My high school must have purchased the software for each of these computers. When using Microsoft Word, there are pictures that are provided to you that are acceptable to use without copyrighting someone else's work. As a teacher, if I want to use a specific software and only certain computers have it, I need to make sure the school I work at correctly downloads or purchases this software on all of the computers.

The invention of technology has helped shape the world in many positive ways, but also in many negative ways. With this huge creation, people of all ages are able to do things that no one thought was possible. Within schools, the use of social media and the rise of students looking up inappropriate websites on school computers has led to school districts blocking certain websites. This has allowed teachers to limit some of the distractions that these students may encounter.  As a teacher, I will repeat countless times to my students to cite their sources to avoid copyright issues, as well as give students registers through ADA the extra time or resources they may need to succeed in the classroom. Because of the block on social media websites, social issues, such as cyberbullying, will most occur outside of the classroom. Although this is still a major issues today,  teachers need to discuss the importance of being kind to everyone and to not hide behind a keyboard and say mean things. When regarding ethical issues, plagiarism will not be tolerated and will be acted upon. Within a school environment there are certain things you cannot say, even with the first amendment, and that will be strictly enforced in my classroom.

Technology today has changed and greatly evolved over the years. Even though my generation was heavily dependent on certain technologies, the new generations are using newer devices and other technologies that I might not be as familiar with. It is important as a student as well as a teacher to change with the changing times with technology. Most commonly seen within the classrooms are computers, or some type of touch-screen device, and also a smart board or a promethean board. When having these technologies, it is important to make sure that the teachers know what these technologies are and how to properly use them so that these devices can be used to its full potential and the students can hopefully understand the material better. Technology in classrooms can be cool and fun while trying to learn new and different material, but only if implemented correctly. If not, then technology can also be a major distraction.

The ISTE organization was created to help students and teachers succeed in schools. The standards that they have created are put in place for students to reach their full potential and strive for greatness in their academic career. One standard that I personally can relate to is being an empowered learner. Being an empowered learner means taking initiative in school and trying my absolute hardest in class to receive the grades I know I can achieve. One of the standards that seems more complicated for me to fulfil is being an innovated designer. In being an innovative designer, you need to be creative. From past experiences, I am not very creative in designing, formatting, and coming up with solutions to certain situations.

Digital natives are people that were born during the technology era. They grew up using and surrounded by technology. Even if they themselves were not using the technology, as long as it was accessible and seen while growing up, they are considered a digital native. Looking at the newer generations, they are most comfortable with the newer technologies than older generations. I believe this is because the youth like to play with toys and the newer devices and items in technology spark their interest. Because of this, within the classroom, teachers are almost “out of the loop” when it comes to technology. For example, in high school, I had a math teacher who had been teaching for close to 20 years. She had a promethean board installed but only used it to project the overhead. She did not use the board to teach us and create shapes or use the pen to write on the board. She would still write on paper and project that on the screen and that’s how she taught us our lessons. Some teachers do not like the change into using the new technology because they are not properly taught and trained on how to actually use these devices. Technology will also keep improving and changing. What I am comfortable using now will be very different from what will be used in the future. Because of this, and as a teacher, I will have to be taught about the new devices within the classroom to help my students in their essential learning process.

In high school, I took a computer fluency course as a part of the "business classes." Within this course, we were instructed to use a typing software to help us use all of our fingers while typing and to increase the speed of our typing. Also within this course we had assignments on Powerpoint, Word, and Excel. Once entering college, I took another computer fluency course, CGS2060. This course allowed me to better my understanding of how computers work and the "internal organs" of a computer and the systems it offers. Apart from courses I have taken, I am an active user of most social medias today. Some of these social medias include Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Facebook.

From my knowledge previously learned from other courses, I still hope to learn even more about Powerpoint, Word, and Excel. There is never too much information someone can learn about these different programs and I hope to continue my understanding about how they are different and how each can be uniquely used depending on what you are looking for.

After taking this questionnaire, I learned that I mostly preference one category over the other. I do believe this is true. I know I am a visual learner and this test was also able to detect that trait. When I am presented new information I am used to learning all the facts told me. I am not a creative person and I find it very difficult to sometimes infer what the writer or teacher is trying to explain if it is not fully presented to me with all the details.
